Next Thursday, Nov. 5, the Center for Student Success will host an organizations fair from 6-8 p.m. on the front lawn.

“So many students are looking for ways to get connected on campus,” said Katie Ramirez, instructor in the department of communication and sponsor for PRO, Public Relations Organization. “An organizations fair gives them the opportunity to see what is available and to find their niche within the University.”

Dr. Kevin Kehl, dean of student success, is coordinating the event and says there will be free pumpkin spiced cookies and hot chocolate for all those who attended.

“I think the organizations fair is important because it makes students aware of the great opportunities to be involved on campus,” Kehl said. “We talk about there being a lot of opportunities, but we sometimes don’t spell out what they are.”

The fair is a way for all campus organizations to share their goals and opportunities they provide to students on a larger scale to reach more people and for students to find a group that shares their interests. There will also be a contest for the best booth.

“I am hoping there will be many more organizations to sign up,” Kehl said. “We didn’t do this last year, but we are going to institutionalize it and make it an annual event.”

PRO is one of around 17 groups that are officially signed up for the event. Ramirez hopes students come away from the event realizing how many opportunities Harding provides for them to be involved on campus.

“There are more than 150 student organizations at Harding, which means there is something for everyone,” she said. “If students are looking for ways to serve, grow in their major, or continue a passion or hobby, there is an organization ready for more participants.”
