Richard Peck to continue Young Adult Author Series

The graduate reading program will present its second Young Adult Author Series program of the school year Feb. 6-7. This professional development workshop will feature author Richard Peck.

Peck is an American novelist born in Decatur, Illinois, known for his contributions to young adult literature. He has received many awards including the Newbery Medal in 2001 and the Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Reader’s Literature. Peck wrote his first novel in 1971 and since then has written more than 30 novels. The Washington Post has referred to Peck as “America’s best living author for young adults.”

Peck will discuss his background on Friday and his current work as well as how to better teach students to be writers on Saturday. The series will include a Friday night meal, a Saturday morning continental breakfast, and an author information packet.

Event prices are $125 for one event; $100 each for two events; and $75 to attend three events. In addition to providing 10 hours of professional development for teachers per event, the event can also provide graduate credit hours applied during the semester in which a student attends an event. Students have the option to receive one hour graduate credit for each event attended with an additional fee and an online assignment to be complete after the event. It is $125 per one hour credit, and registration forms for graduate credit will be available at the event.
