Stevens Art Center presents joint exhibit of artwork

The Stevens Art Center is hosting a joint exhibit of artwork by professors Ron and Faye Doran. The exhibit includes drawings, weavings, ceramics and fiber art by Faye and photographs and ceramics by Ron. The couple’s exhibit will be on display in the Stevens Art Center gallery until Feb. 20.

The exhibit features photographs from Ron, who is also a botanist, and drawings from Faye both highlighting Ron’s travels to Galapagos Islands in Ecuador where he attended a Chautauqua course designed by the National Science Foundation to improve the understanding and teaching of ecology. Ron heard lectures and visited the major islands to see the fauna, flora and geology of the islands.

“My husband wanted memories of his trips framed for his office,” Faye said. “I chose to take his photographs and try to reproduce them as close as I could.”

Other pieces featured in the gallery include drawings of photographs taken by Faye last fall as well as throughout her life from the places she has lived, worked and experienced life. Her artwork includes the use of colored pencil, pastels, charcoal and marker, which are the mediums Faye uses to teach in her Art 104 class.

“I wanted an opportunity for my students to just have some inspiration in a different media,” Faye said. “I want the other faculty and students to know what I’ve been doing in my spare time, and I want to raise awareness and make some money for Camp Gander Brook.”

The exhibit is a benefit show for Gander Brook Christian Camp located in Raymond, Maine. The art gallery will be open for viewing Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Feb. 20.
