Summer Honor Choir to present free concert

High school students from 10 different states will present a free choral concert July 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the recital hall of the Reynolds Center on the Harding University campus.

Participants in the University’s summer Honor Choir program are on campus all week studying voice, sight-reading, staging and choreography, theatre movement, vocal harmonization, and choral music. Dr. Cliff Ganus III, director of choral activities, organized the week’s activities and will direct the evening concert.

Other program instructors include Department of Theatre Chair Robin Miller, Assistant Professors of Music Kelly Neill and Jay Walls, University alumna Stacey Neely, Instructor of Music Susan Shirel, and Adjunct Instructor Debbie Ganus. Lis Jones is the accompanist for the concert and rehearsals, and Jenna Thomas, director of theatre at Central Arkansas Christian School, is choreographer for the event.

The concert will include a variety of choral selections, including “Grace Before Sleep” by Susan LaBarr, “Lord, Make Me an Instrument” by David Stanley York, “Mairi's Wedding,” an Irish folk song arranged by Dave and Jean Perry, “The Road Home” by Stephen Paulus, and “Way Over in Beulah Land” arranged by Stacey Gibbs. The public is invited to attend, and there is no admission charge.
