Carly Taylor began playing the violin when she was seven years old. It soon became her passion, and she is now turning that passion into a career plan.

Taylor currently participates in Chorus, Chamber Singers and String Chamber Ensemble within the music department; teaches a youth orchestra and a summer string camp; and was also able to participate in a summer chorus campaigns trip to perform and do mission work in six foreign countries.

“My very favorite things that I do are Chamber Singers and the String Chamber Ensemble,” Taylor said. “They are both small groups so it is more difficult, but it is a beautiful result if you work hard. Being in the smaller ensemble groups really helped me to become a better musician.”

Taylor always imagined herself teaching elementary school music, but she said that once she taught a middle school camp and a youth orchestra, she found her future going in a slightly different direction.

“I taught a middle school strings camp during the summer, and it was my favorite thing I have ever taught,” Taylor said. “I never thought I would want to teach middle school music, but it was really rewarding, and the kids who I worked with were so great that I got just as much out of it as they did.”

Taylor plans to stay involved in music performance as well as pursue a career in music education.
