Kayla Rogers was exposed to nursing and missions from a young age through her mother’s nursing work in Kenya. This made it easy for Rogers to develop a passion for nursing and helping others.

Coming to college and working in the department has allowed Rogers to realize what it will truly mean to be a nurse.

“This thought came to me that in four years people’s lives could be in my hands,” Rogers said. “It’s very sobering and makes it very real that I’m going to be changing people’s lives for better or for worse.”

With that reality though, Rogers feels that the faculty and staff of the department have encouraged her and helped her keep her priorities straight. One of the aspects she appreciates most about the department is the Christian perspective it is taught from.

“With all of the faculty, their faith in the Lord combined with their experience in the field and their willingness to listen and be there for students to keep us diligent and honorable has been really encouraging,” Rogers said. “In all aspects, they are developing nurses as Christian servants, and I really love it.”

Rogers would like to go into the mission field after graduation, but her “American dream” is to work in a cardiac pediatric unit or neonatology.
