Finding a place to belong in a university can be an anxious experience for many students. While some may form friendships within a social club, on a sports team or in a Bible study, Krysten Miller begin to feel at home through the relationships she made with professors and students within her major.
“The math department has truly cared and taught me that life is so much more than the degree you are getting,” Miller said. “It’s really about how you are going to affect the world, for Christ, through math.”
During Miller’s senior year, she had the opportunity to student teach at Bald Knob High School. Miller said the key to her success as a student teacher was because she immersed herself into everything the school did and made herself apart of their team by attending games and getting to know all the teachers and students.
“Student teaching is like a full time job that you are not getting paid for,” Miller said. “But it has been one of my biggest blessings and I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
After graduation, Miller hopes to teach math on military bases around the world. Miller hopes to eventually receive her doctorate and possibly return to teach at Harding.
