First Thaw Arts and Culture Fest held April 15

The departments of English, communication and campus life joined together to host First Thaw Arts and Culture Fest on Friday, April 15 from 7-9:30 p.m. in the Administration Auditorium.

This event was open to the community of Searcy to come enjoy a night of storytelling, live music and a documentary film featuring a talkback with the directors. Featured local businesses included Kibo Midnight Oil Coffeehouse and Burrito Day. The night  jumped back and forth with songs from Brett Vanderzee, a singer songwriter from Oklahoma; a showing of a documentary from Washington D.C.-based 1504 Productions; and a section of storytelling from students.

According to Heath Carpenter, instructor in the department of English, “It’s a multi-entertainment experience, something not unlike ‘A Prairie Home Companion.’”

This is an event they hope to host downtown in the future. The First Thaw Arts and Culture Fest will be working with the Revive the Rialto Campaign.
