Professor of History Shawn Fisher was named part of a nine-member World War I Centennial Commemoration Committee created by Gov. Asa Hutchinson March 31.

The committee will plan state events and projects for the 2017 and 2018 calendar year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I. Fisher said he was honored by the selection and looks forward to working with his fellow committee members.

“It is a great privilege to work on this project as we recognize the legacy of the Great War in Arkansas and the some 72,000 Arkansans who served in the war,” Fisher said. “It’s a first for me to serve on a state committee, but I’m humbled to be able to contribute.”
