The Harding University Campus Players present “A Seussified Christmas Carol,” a free, one-act holiday play Friday, Dec. 2, through Sunday, Dec. 4, in the Ulrey Performing Arts Center on campus. Show times are Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.

A fun holiday-themed show for the whole family, “A Seussified Christmas Carol” is a new and humorous take on a classic story, combining Dr. Seuss and Charles Dickens. According to student director Holly Cannon, the show is something audiences will find both fresh and familiar.

“It’s two stories that you know really well,” Cannon said. “You think you know what’s coming, but then it goes a different way. It’s really a show for everyone because you know the characters. The dialogue is written to be very witty for adults, but it also rhymes to appeal to children. Kids will also love the colorful costumes and set.”

Cannon approached the University theatre department and Campus Players several months ago about the possibility of staging a Christmas show. She said it was important to her and the cast to offer the show for free admission.

“I really want this show to be a gift to the community,” Cannon said. “We especially want kids to enjoy this story that we as a cast have grown to love so much.”

The cast will be accepting donations for Searcy women’s shelter Hope Cottage at the show. No tickets necessary, but event seating is first come, first serve. For more information contact the theatre department at 501-279-5315. For more Harding holiday events, visit harding.edu/calendar.
