ASI presents bestselling author Eric Metaxas

eric-metaxas Jan. 4, 2017 | ASI | Harding University’s American Studies Institute will host New York Times best-selling author Eric Metaxas for the third presentation of its distinguished lecture series Thursday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. Metaxas’ presentation will cover his recent book, Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery. Amazing Grace is the 2016-17 campus-wide Harding Read. The Harding Read program encourages students to read a selected book during the school year to encourage conversation in and outside the classroom. The book tells the story of British abolitionist William Wilberforce (1759-1833) who fought for 20 years against the British slave trade. The slave trade was defeated in 1807, and slavery itself was abolished just before Wilberforce’s death in 1833. In addition to Amazing Grace, Metaxas is the author of several books, including Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy; Miracles: What They Are, Why They Happen, and How They Can Change Your Life; and If You Can Keep It: The Forgotten Promise of American Liberty. Metaxas’ writing has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The New Yorker. He has appeared as a cultural commentator on CNN, Fox News Channel, and MSNBC. In addition, Metaxas is the host of “The Eric Metaxas Show,” a nationally syndicated daily radio show. He is the founder and host of “Socrates in the City,” a series of conversations on life, God and other small topics.” The presentation will be in Benson Auditorium on campus. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the American Studies Institute at 501-279-4497. For other Harding events, visit harding.edu/calendar.
