The College of Bible and Ministry will host the 23rd annual Women in God’s Service (WINGS) conference Feb. 24-26 in the David B. Burks American Heritage Building.
Assistant Professor of Bible Anessa Westbrook is directing the conference for the second time this year. Westbrook said the goal for this year’s program is to help attendants see where God has been active in their lives.
“We really want WINGS to be something that helps women grow,” Westbrook said. “With thinking about what it is that could help women create a stronger and deeper relationship with God, we started thinking about what would be impactful. I want to see change. I want to see people have that ‘a-ha’ moment and grow in their relationship with God. I think if I could see that, that would be the most exciting thing that could happen this weekend.”
The WINGS conference encourages women of all ages and throughout the region to join together for a weekend of study on the theme “You are here.” The conference will include lessons from keynote speaker Elaine Denman, counseling services coordinator for Northside Church of Christ in Wichita, Kansas; times of worship led by department of music adjunct instructor Stacey Neely; and breakout sessions among attendants.
“Dr. Elaine Denman will again be headlining this event, guiding us to consider how we can serve God from where we are currently placed in the kingdom,” Westbrook said. “Her rich background and biblical knowledge will be beneficial as she provides wisdom to the women.”
Westbrook said the weekend is also an opportunity for participants to worship together as women from a variety of backgrounds.
“This year we have a great line-up of breakout speakers including a couple of published authors,” Westbrook said. “We are very excited about the diversity of perspectives and wisdom that these women will be able to offer. This year's event looks like it is going to bring in a record crowd. I think that's a testimony to the experience that women are having at this event.”
