Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play band to conclude Arts and Life Concert Series

March 15, 2017 | Music |

The department of music will host Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play band on Thursday, March 23, at 7 p.m. in the Administration Auditorium, 915 East Market Ave., Searcy.

The group is led by bassist, trombonist and pianist Brubeck and features versatile musicians Joel Brown on guitar and Peter Madcat Ruth playing harmonica, guitar, jaw harp and percussion. With all three contributing vocals, the trio showcases a vast repertoire of Delta blues, Tin Pan Alley standards, New Orleans grooves, jazz gems and incisive originals.

The musicians have performed together in various capacities for decades. Brubeck and Madcat began touring in 1969 as young rock musicians in the group New Heavenly Blue. Brubeck later formed the group Crofut & Brubeck and featured Brown as a guitarist for the album “Across Your Dreams.” Brown again worked with Brubeck recording “Bach to Brubeck” at Abbey Road Studios with the London Symphony Orchestra, and in 1999 Madcat joined Brubeck and Brown to form Triple Play.

Since releasing their first album “Triple Play Live” in 2000, the group has played in concert halls, clubs and festivals all over the country, even performing some of Brubeck’s symphonic arrangements with orchestras across the U.S.

Tickets are $5 at the door and $3 if purchased in advance. For tickets and more information go to www.harding.edu/concertseries. For more Harding events visit www.harding.edu/calendar.
