C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien show concludes Arts and Life Concert Series

Harding University welcomes back playwright and actor David Payne as C.S. Lewis in “Wardrobes and Rings” Friday, April 13 at 7 p.m. in the Administration Auditorium as the final performance of the 2017-18 Arts and Life Concert Series.

“The feedback from the large audience that enjoyed Mr. Payne's performance last year [in ‘An Evening with C.S. Lewis’] was overwhelmingly positive,” said Dr. Jay Walls, associate professor of music. “I feel certain that this play will be just as well received, if not more so.”

“Wardrobes and Rings” is a three-person theatre production that imagines an encounter between legendary authors C.S. Lewis (The Chronicles of Narnia) and J.R.R. Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings), played by Gordon Tett, for what turns out to be the very last time. Set in 1963, the two estranged friends reunite at the Eagle and Child pub in Oxford, England, where they reminisce about how they met and influenced each other and the impact Christ had on their lives.

“We are very excited to end this Arts and Life season with ‘Wardrobes and Rings,’” Walls said. “There is something for everyone in the family.”

Tickets are $3 in advance and $5 at the door. For tickets and more information, visit www.harding.edu/concertseries or call 501-279-4343. For other Harding events and free and low cost services available to the public, visit www.harding.edu/community .
