The Harding University Department of Music will present concerts featuring the Chorus, Percussion Ensemble, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Chamber Singers, Orchestra and Wind Ensemble throughout April.
Tuesday, April 10, 7 p.m., Percussion Ensemble, Reynolds Recital Hall
The Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Wesley Parker, will present a unique evening of percussion music.
Thursday, April 12, 3 p.m., Opera Scenes Forum, Reynolds Recital Hall
This performance is the final project for a University department of music class on Opera music. Fifteen students will perform featured scenes including solos, duets and ensemble pieces from Verdi's "Falstaff,” Donizetti's "Elixir of Love,” Adam Guettel's musical "The Light in the Piazza,” Menotti's "The Consul," and Aaron Copland's "The Tender Land.”
Tuesday, April 17, 7 p.m. , Combined Chorus, Searcy High School Performing Arts Center
The combined chorus concert will feature performances from the Harding Chorus, Searcy High School Choir and Harding Academy Chorus. Each chorus will perform individually and then come together for a combined performance showcasing more than 200 singers.
Thursday, April 19, 7 p.m. , Wind Ensemble, Administration Auditorium
The Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Michael Chance, will perform pieces by Bert Appermont, Mark Camphouse, Gary D. Ziek, Percy Grainger and Morton Gould. The group is made up of more than 50 musicians performing on instruments such as flutes/piccolos, clarinets, bass clarinets, oboes, bassoons, saxophones, trumpets, horns, trombones, euphoniums, tubas, harp, piano and percussion.
Sunday, April 22, 7 p.m. , Chamber Singers, Reynolds Recital Hall
The Harding University Chamber Singers will present a varied program of poetry set to music. The group includes more than twelve singers directed by Dr. Kelly Neill.
Monday, April 23, 7 p.m. , Belle Canto and Concert Choir, Reynolds Recital Hall
The 60 women of Belle Canto, under the direction of Stacey Neely, will join forces with the 90-voice Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Kelly Neill, to perform Chinese, French and Swahili pieces.
Tuesday, April 24, 7 p.m. , Symphony Orchestra, Administration Auditorium
The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Michael Chance, will perform “At the Movies” including music from “Frozen,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Wicked,” “The Lord of the Dance,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “Hamilton.”
Thursday, April 26, 7 p.m. , Jazz Band, Reynolds Recital Hall
Two jazz bands, one led by Dr. Wes Parker and the other by Dr. Andrew Cook, will perform blues, swing, Latin, funk and contemporary styles.
Saturday, April 28, 2 p.m. , Brass Quintet Performance, Reynolds Recital Hall
The Brass Quintet will perform a student-directed concert featuring a french horn, trombone/baritone, tuba and two trumpets.
