College of Bible & Ministry to host world-renowned archaeologist for lecture on recent excavation finds

The Harding University College of Bible and Ministry along with the Society of Near Eastern Archaeology will host world-renowned archaeologist Dr. Scott Stripling at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 in McInteer 150 on Harding’s campus. He will present “‘Go Now to Shiloh:’ Have We Found the House of God?” and also will share some recent archaeological finds from his excavations at Tel Shiloh in Israel. Admission is free.

“We are so pleased to have Dr. Stripling come to speak,” said Dr. Dale Manor, director of the archaeology series. “His work at Shiloh is where the tabernacle was located soon after Israel’s arrival in the land of Canaan; the site also has connections with the great Old Testament prophet Samuel. Stripling’s work is helping to clarify that period of early Israel’s history.”

Stripling serves as provost and director of the Archaeology Institute at The Bible Seminary in Katy, Texas. He is the director of excavations for the Associates for Biblical Research (ABR) at Ancient Shiloh. Previously, Stripling directed the ABR excavations at Khirbet el-Maqatir, served as field supervisor at Tall el-Hammam in Jordan, and as a supervisor of the Temple Mount Sifting Project in Jerusalem.

Stripling completed his graduate studies at the University of Texas, Assemblies of God Theological Seminary and Veritas International University. He serves on the board of directors of the Near East Archaeological Society and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, magazines and books. A popular speaker at churches and conferences around the world and a guest on numerous television programs and documentaries such as Fox News, The 700 Club, and The New York Times, his greatest passion is connecting the material culture of the Holy Land with the biblical text.

Attendees are invited to visit the University’s Linda Byrd Smith Museum of Biblical Archaeology in McInteer 146, which is immediately across the hall from where Stripling will be speaking. The museum will be open from 6-9 p.m. Admission is free.
