Walmart CFO sharing small business roots, school to offer free small business consulting services

April 23, 2019 |

The Harding University Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration will host Harding alumnus Brett Biggs, executive vice president and CFO of Walmart, at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25 in the Administration Auditorium. This is a special, community event where Biggs will share the story of how Sam Walton grew the enterprise from its small town beginnings using the same guiding philosophy.  His presentation, “From Main Street to Wall Street: Timeless Business Principles,” covers how the Arkansas-based company grew into an multinational corporation and still uses these business practices that are applicable no matter the size of the organization. Admission is free.

Also during the event, information will be shared regarding services that Harding’s Waldron Center and College of Business Administration offer to local businesses at no charge during the school year. Services offered include but are not limited to: advisory groups; seminars on various topics of interest to small business owners; and hands-on learning workshops. The services are provided by Harding faculty, students and alumni with expertise in each area. Participants at Thursday’s event will be given the opportunity to complete an interest form for priority consideration for the free services.

Biggs, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Walmart, is responsible for accounting and control, corporate strategy and development, business planning and analysis, internal audit, and several other key areas of the company. He previously served as CFO for two operating segments within the company before becoming the lead financial executive.

Biggs holds an MBA from Oklahoma State University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Harding. He is a board member for the Walmart Foundation, NWA Cancer Challenge, MANA Nutritional Products and Pepperdine University.
