Harding University will host marimbist Andrew Harnsberger at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26 in the Administration Auditorium as the final concert of the 2018-19 Arts and Life Performance Series.
“Andy is a remarkable performer — energetic, exciting and captivating in his musicality,” said Dr. Wes Parker, associate professor of music. “In addition to being a world-class marimba soloist, he also is an incredible educator and popular composer of percussion music for percussion soloists and ensembles. We are delighted to be hosting him in a residency here at Harding.”
Harnsberger will be accompanied by the Harding University Percussion Ensemble on two of his original compositions, “Unbreakable” and “Palmetto Moon.” Both pieces feature Harnsberger as a marimba soloist with a trio accompaniment from the percussion ensemble.
Harnsberger is associate professor of music and percussion coordinator at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. He earned his doctorate of musical arts in performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he also received the prestigious Performer's Certificate. Harnsberger is a performing artist and clinician for Malletech Instruments and Mallets, Remo Drum Heads, Sabian Cymbals, Ltd., and Grover Pro Percussion.
