The Harding University Wind Ensemble will perform its final concert of the season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 in the Administration Auditorium. Admission is free.

“This show is a fitting finale for an exceptional group of musicians,” said Dr. Mike Chance, director. “I believe the audience will be moved by a powerful performance.”

The Wind Ensemble , under the direction of Chance and student conductor Tyler Parkridge, will present “On This Bright Morning,” a concert based on themes drawn from contemporary American composer David Maslanka’s work by the same title. The presentation will include “Flying by the Breeze” by Philip Sparke; “Carmen Fantasie Brillante” by Francois Borne with guest flute soloist Mallory Harrison; “Salvation is Created” by Tschesnokoff; “A Movement for Rosa” and “Foundation” by Mark Camphouse; “On This Bright Morning” by David Maslanka and “The Fairest of the Fair March” by John Philip Sousa.

“The Wind Ensemble has been home to many past musicians who have gone on to teach, attend the finest graduate schools, perform professionally and conduct,” said Chance. “The members of the current band are certainly following in the footsteps of those before them.”

The wind instrument ensemble is made up of more than 50 musicians performing on flutes, piccolos, clarinets, bass clarinets, oboes, bassoons, saxophones, trumpets, horns, trombones, euphoniums, tubas, harp, piano and percussion.
