HU honors outstanding faculty & staff

Nine Harding University faculty members received Teacher Achievement Awards and eight staff members received Distinguished Service Awards at the annual faculty and staff dinner on campus Friday, April 26. These annual awards are presented to faculty members for demonstrating excellence in teaching and staff members who showcase great ability, dedicated service and outstanding contribution to the work and purpose of the University.

Faculty members Jenene Alexander, Chuck Hicks, Mary Madill, Frank McCown, Peter Rice, Jonathan Singleton, John Stone, Debbie Waggoner and Jonathan White are the 2018-19 Teacher Achievement Award recipients. Staff members Donna Brown, Kevin Davis, J Lemmons, Nathan Looney, Ashley Lynn, John Noah, Carl Walker and Sharon Williams are the 2018-19 Distinguished Service Award recipients.

Dr. Alexander is director of the counseling program and professor of professional counseling in the Cannon-Clary College of Education. She has been a faculty member since 1990.

Brown has been a second grade teacher at Harding Academy since 1994.

Davis is assistant director of public safety. He has worked for the University for 20 years.

Hicks is director of Belles and Beaux and Good News Singers and assistant professor of music in the College of Arts and Humanities. He has been with the University for 31 years.

Lemmons has worked at Harding for 18 years. He is a functional technician for the Office of Advancement.

Looney is assistant sports information director. He has worked at the University since 2008.

Lynn has been a member of the Harding staff for 10 years. She is the administrative assistant in the College of Business Administration.

Madill is academic director and assistant professor of physician assistant studies in the College of Allied Health. She has been a faculty member since 2012.

Dr. McCown is associate professor of computer science in the College of Sciences. He has been teaching at the University since 1997.

Noah is director of the business office. He has been with the University for 18 years.

Dr. Rice is assistant professor of Bible in the College of Bible and Ministry. He joined the University in 2013.

Dr. Singleton is associate professor of English in the College of Arts and Humanities. He has been with the University since 2011.

Stone is assistant professor in the College of Business Administration. He has been with the University for 17 years.

Dr. Waggoner is associate professor of pharmacy practice in the College of Pharmacy. She has been with the University since 2012.

Walker has been a member of the Harding staff for 15 years. He is a technical training specialist for information systems and technology.

Dr. White is associate professor of engineering and physics in the College of Sciences. He joined the University faculty in 2005.

Williams is an administrative assistant to the president. She has been with the University for 18 years.

Each award recipient was presented with a $5,000 check and framed certificate commemorating the award.

In addition to the Distinguished Service Awards, the University presented an “Above and Beyond” service award to Billy Davis. Davis is custodial supervisor for Aramark who has been working at the University since 2006.
