Carion Wind Quintet brings classical music to life in Arts and Life performance series

Harding University will host the Carion Wind Quintet Thursday, Feb. 27 as part of the 2019-20 Arts and Life Performance Series. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Administration Auditorium and is one of many performances in the Quintet’s first United States tour.

Based in Denmark, Carion brings a unique and innovative chamber music experience to audiences with its choreographed and dramatized performances of classical and modern works.

They have performed in multiple European festivals, including Rheingau Festival, Kissinger Sommer, Beethovenfest Bonn and Bergen Festival, and have released five highly critically acclaimed CDs.

Although Carion is well founded in the established wind quintet works, they have also received favorable critique for their interpretation of Carl Nielson, french composers like Jean Francaiz, and the Six Bagatelles by György Ligeti. Additionally, the group has collaborated with several composers, most notably with Morten Skovgård Danielsen, and can present a unique range of arrangements by their own horn player, David M.A.P. Palmquist.

Anthony Burton with the BBC Magazine praised the the group by saying, “The players, all secure in technique and beautiful in tone, combine with immaculate attack, balance and tuning, as well as a sense of shared purpose. Performance – 5 stars.”

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Groups of five or more can purchase tickets for $5 each. A master class will be held at 3 p.m. in the Reynolds Recital Hall.
