The Journal of Engineering Education named Dr. James Huff, assistant professor of engineering, a Star Reviewer for 2019. Huff has been a peer reviewer for the journal since 2014.

In 2018, the journal recognized top reviewers that have made significant contributions to the publication for the first time. Huff was honored as being in the top 1 percent of more than 400 professionals based on the number of reviews he completed, recommendations from Associate Editors for whom he reviewed, and the content and constructive nature of his reviews over the last few years.

Huff, who is also an associate editor for Studies in Engineering Education , says that while the work of a reviewer isn’t a visible part of the process to publishing professional articles, “it might be one of the most important contributions to assuring high-quality research in an academic field.”

“For the Journal of Engineering Education , I tend to review research that uses qualitative methods or focuses on identity theories, in line with my own published work,” Huff said. “For me, it is always a joy to engage with authors — even if anonymously — when research is fresh. This task allows me to flesh out compassion toward others while maintaining high standards — an orientation that we know well at Harding. So I feel greatly honored and ridiculously surprised to be recognized by the JEE work that often goes unrecognized.”The American Society for Engineering Education publishes the international peer-reviewed journal quarterly. According to the ASEE website, the journal “seeks to help define and shape a body of knowledge derived from scholarly research that leads to timely and significant improvements in engineering education worldwide.”
