Success is built on small consistent actions

As part of the University’s Faith in the Workplace alumni series during Homecoming weekend, the College of Allied Health hosted a Q&A session with 2024 Outstanding Alumnus Paul Chandler (’03), director of strength and conditioning at the University of Florida. Chandler shared his insights on building a successful and meaningful career and emphasized that success is built on small consistent actions, drawing from his own experiences overcoming early struggles with dyslexia.

Initially, Chandler didn’t see Harding in his future until a football opportunity led him to the University. He believes in the importance of genuine connection in every field. “It does not matter what field or vocation you go into,” Chandler said. “It’s about your ability to connect with others to create change.” He encouraged students to embrace uncertainty and lean into it, focusing on small, consistent efforts to drive significant personal and professional growth.

Chandler noted a shift among young professionals who he believes are increasingly searching for authenticity. He urged students to develop skills that allow them to “manage up” by speaking truth to authority, emphasizing the power of connection in creating change. “Harding is equipping you to be a missionary of your field,” Chandler said, emphasizing the unique blend of faith and profession students have the privilege to be a part of here.

Chandler’s faith journey plays a significant role in his career. He advised students to be their authentic selves, as each interaction leaves a lasting impression. “It is important to give ourselves grace, especially when facing challenges or setbacks.” He encouraged students to understand that growth takes time and to be patient with themselves throughout the process. Chandler stressed the significance of "finding your why,” understanding the deeper purpose behind our actions as a driving force for long-term success and fulfillment in any field.
