James Brumley earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Harding and a Master of Science in engineering systems from the Colorado School of Mines. In the early years of his career, Brumley worked in the biomedical sector of engineering. He quickly found his passion for the energy industry and has been serving in that sector for the past 25 years. He currently works as the chief operating officer of Vess Energy Group. Throughout his career, he has earned awards such as Operator of the Year in 2012, Community Leader of the Week in 2023 and the Spirit of the Leopard award in 2024. The values that were instilled in Brumley as a college student now serve him in his professional career. As he mentors young engineers and leads operations that help supply the energy society runs on, he leads with integrity, stewardship and people-centered care.
