Harding’s Office of Advancement celebrated Giving Tuesday by challenging alumni, friends and students to raise 50,000 in 24 hours for need-based student scholarship assistance.

With help from 238 donors, including current Harding students, the “Gather to Give” campaign surpassed its original goal and raised $59,672.

Giving Tuesday, created in 2012 by 92nd Street Y, a cultural and community center in New York, and the United Nations Foundation has engaged more than 30,000 other organizations who participate in Giving Tuesday.

“Harding is all about community,” Bobo said. “Harding is a family, and we wanted to encourage everyone in our family to gather to give, whether it be a student on campus or someone far away giving online.”

The “Gather to Give” event began at 12 a.m. and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The money was donated through online gifts, phone calls with credit cards, cash and checks.

“I love Harding,” Bobo said. “Harding changed me and has given me many opportunities for my future and to build lifelong relationships with people. Many people can’t come to Harding unless they have a scholarship, and I want to help other students have a wonderful Harding experience just like I did.”
