Music department announces 2015-16 concert series

The department of music has announced its 2015-16 concert series. Throughout the school year, the series will feature eight concerts.

The series includes performances from the Orchid Ensemble, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem, Julie Fowlis, Brad Leali, Pete Huttlinger, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Tatiana Roitman Mann and Cindy Wu, and Ronald Chioldi.

Orchid Ensemble, $3 Sept. 21, 2015

The Orchid Ensemble uses a blending of traditional Chinese music with other styles, and the concerts range from folk music to classical tunes.

Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem, $3 Oct. 6, 2015

Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem is a New England-based folk quartet. The members of the quartet include Rani Arbo, Andrew Kinsey, Anand Nayak and Scott Kessel. The group has five different releases on Signature Sound, and they just released an album, “Violets are Blue,” in April. Their concert will include outreach activities to observe National Cancer Awareness Month.

Julie Fowlis, $3 Oct. 29, 2015

Multi-award winning Julie Fowlis provided two songs, “Touch the Sky” and “Into the Open Air,” for the movie “Brave.” Fowlis is a Gaelic singer from Scotland and was nominated for folk singer of the year in 2015.

Brad Leali, $3 Nov. 19, 2015

Brad Leali, a Denver, Colorado native, will preform jazz music on the saxophone. Leali has worked as a professor of jazz saxophone on the University of North Texas faculty since 2008. From 1989-94, Leali was the lead saxophonist for the “Harry Connick Jr. Orchestra.”

Pete Huttlinger, $3 Feb. 2, 2016

Pete Huttlinger is known as a master of fingerpicked guitar. Huttlinger was invited to play at Carnegie Hall in 2007 and played there again in 2008 and 2010. Huttlinger is known for his guitar skills and his ability to make the audience life during his performances.

Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, $3 Feb. 23, 2016

The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin is composed of members from Russia and is under the direction of Misha Rachlevsky. Chamber Orchestra Kremlin has preformed at concerts and festivals in Moscow, Russia, and is now touring in North and South America, Europe, and the far East.

Tatiana Roitman Mann/Cindy Wu, $3 March 31, 2016

Tatiana Roitman Mann is both a soloist and a recitalist, and has played across Europe and North America. Roitman is the Music Director of Wildwood Park for the Arts and the director of the Wildwood Academy of Music and the Arts. Cindy Wu, a violinist, has preformed as a soloist in Europe, North America and Asia.

Ronald Chioldi, free April 14, 2016

The last concert in the series will feature pianist Ronald Chioldi, a professor of music at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Chioldi received his doctorate in piano performance from the University of Illinois.
