As any student athlete can attest, balancing any major and collegiate sports can be a challenge. As an interior design student and member of the Bison baseball team, Davis Richardson is learning to do just that.

“It’s definitely a lot of work,” Richardson said. “It requires a lot of hours to complete the projects that we have to do. It is really difficult, especially during the season. I end up spending as much time as I can in the studio.”

As a transfer student, Richardson believes adjusting to the different requirements has been worth the effort.

“I’m glad I transferred,” Richardson said. “I kind of lost a little ground just because it’s a different program, but at the same time I’m glad I’m doing it. The program here has given me a lot of experience — more than I think I would have gotten otherwise.”

In addition to a new school, Richardson is also getting used to the department’s new work area.

“It’s been really cool for the interior design program to have a new space,” Richardson said. “The new facility was tailored to our needs. I basically have my own desk now, so it’s really nice to be able to work in my own space.”

Along with more ideal work areas, Richardson feels that his professors are what make the program what it is today.

“One of the best things is the personal relationship you’re able to have with your teachers,” Richardson said. “I think a lot of it has to do with just the culture of Harding and the Christian environment that it has. You know that your teachers actually care about your success.”

Richardson plans to participate in a master’s program after graduation to pursue a career in architecture.
