Music department invites community to free holiday concerts

Harding University Department of Music will present several free holiday-themed concerts throughout November and December. All events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Nov. 27, Chorus, 7 p.m., Administration Auditorium

Whether it’s choral classics, new works, spirituals, opera, folksongs, novelties or contemporary Christian songs, the 60-member chorus explores all areas of the choral art with style and enthusiasm.

Thursday, Nov. 29, String Orchestra, 7 p.m., Administration Auditorium

The orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Mike Chance, is made up of 22 musicians, most of whom are University students, but also includes local professionals as well as advanced secondary students from the local community. The group will perform a program titled, “A Very Baroque Christmas.”

Saturday, Dec. 1, Concert Choir, First United Methodist Church - Searcy

The 90-member Concert Choir was organized in fall 1988, and the majority of members major in something other than music; approximately 30 majors within the university are represented. The choir will present a community Christmas concert performing with organist Ryan Russell.

Sunday, Dec. 2, Chamber Singers, 7 p.m., Reynolds Recital Hall

The Chamber Singers, a group of 12 to 20 highly qualified members, typically sing Renaissance and contemporary music, and some members sing in the University’s Concert Choir or Chorus. The Christmas themed performance is titled, “Waiting and Celebration.”

Thursday, Dec. 6, Holiday Spectacular, 7 p.m., Administration Auditorium

Belle Canto, Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble come together to present an evening of Christmas music.
