Eight new undergraduate majors

August 11, 2019 | Academic Catalog | In preparation for the 2019-20 school year, eight new undergraduate majors were added to Harding’s course catalog. The following majors are new to the University or a result of updated versions of majors already offered. Film (BA) Due to the continued growth within both traditional media outlets and new streaming platforms, the ability to create original content to fill these outlets will be in high demand. Students in the film degree will enhance their skills in filmmaking and media production through courses reflecting real-world production studio atmospheres. Integrated Marketing and Communications (BA) A new major to the Communication department combines courses in the communication core with courses from the Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration to create a degree program that trains students for careers in marketing communication. Multimedia Journalism (BA) What used to be two majors — journalism and broadcast journalism — has been combined into one major with a choice of four concentrations: news-editorial, broadcast, sports and photojournalism. This broader scope of study allows students to be better prepared in the expanding aspects of professional communication. Environmental Science (BA) This interdisciplinary major between the department of chemistry and biochemistry and the department of biology gives students an overview of how science affects the environment. The major provides a strong foundation in the natural sciences including biology, chemistry, geology, and ecology and allows students to make choices in their upper division courses to align to career goals. Exercise Science: Pre-Athletic Training Major (BS) This major sets qualified students on track to complete both a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Master of Science in Athletic Training in five years with the requirement of summer courses and acceptance into the Athletic Training program. Forensic Science (BA) In a world of technology and trace evidence, forensic scientists play a vital role in the criminal justice system by providing scientifically based information through the analysis of physical evidence. The major in this rapidly expanding field provides a strong foundation in chemistry and other sciences, while at the same time giving the student a detailed understanding of the criminal justice system. Health Studies (BA) The Carr College of Nursing offers this new program for students interested in pursuing a career in nursing or health care. This degree does not lead to a professional credential or state licensure, but it prepares students for roles in community health, support services, health care navigation, claims services, medical sales and patient services. Integrative Studies (BA) This major is intended to give students the ability to design their own degree, whether combining two or more academic concentrations or minors. Because of the growing number of academic course offerings, the catalog system has been updated from a three-number system to a four-number system. See the changes, find your new course numbers, and explore all of the majors offered at Harding in the catalog .
