While you're exploring Southern Living's cutest Christmas town in the South, take a walk through the front lawn and capture your Hallmark Christmas memories. The lights on campus provide a magical winter wonderland, but it can be tricky to get the perfect family photos for your holiday cards. Check out these tips for getting the best shots.
Visit campus before sunset when there is still some color in the sky to make light balance easier. There is a short window of time, so it’s important to be prepared to move fast, especially if you want to do multiple locations.
When adjusting the lighting for your photos, focus on lighting the people well. It is not a problem if the Christmas lights are a little extra bright. A flash on your camera or phone can be helpful. Experiment with and without a flash to see which works best.
Stand close to a light source for your subjects. The big wrapped tree in the middle of the front lawn can be difficult to use as a background because it is so bright, but standing beside the big tree makes a great light source for your subjects.
The University and College arches are great spots for photos. Stand under or in front of them and use them as a fun background.
I think we can all agree that snow makes everything better, including photos. The light from the trees bounces off the snow and everything looks magical.
When the weather keeps you indoors, the lobby of the David B. Burks American Heritage Building provides a great festive atmosphere.
Remember that photos don’t always have to be posed. Candids are often the best photos. The most important thing is to have fun!
